There are many opportunities available to homeschool families.  Listing of these contests and workshops does not imply an endorsement by CHAP.  Please review all thoroughly.  

* Scholarships

CHAP Leigh A Genasevich Memorial Scholarship information available. Deadline April 21, 2017


The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship enhances educational opportunites for eligible student who reside in Pennsylvania.  The program is privately funded by individuals and corporate donors; no tax or other public funds are used.  The program provides four-year scholarships to two high school seniors per year.  Find information from their website here.  Deadline March 1, 2017


* Contest

Air Force History & Heritage Writing Competition

The competition is open to public, private school or homeschooled students between the ages of 13-18, giving them a chance to showcase their writing talents while vying for scholarship funds. Entries must be submitted via U.S. mail or email by March 14, 2017. The competition will accept only the first 250 entrants. The requirements for this writing competition meet Common Core curriculum English Language Arts writing standards for grades 6-12.

A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to the first place winner, $1,000 to the second place winner and $500 to the third place winner.


National History Day Competition

The Army Heritage Center Foundation is the sponsoring organization for National History Day in Pennsylvania (NHD in PA). NHD engages students in grades 6-12 in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. Students produce dramatic performances, imaginative exhibits, multimedia documentaries, web sites and papers based on research related to an annual theme. The 2017 theme is "Taking a Stand in History." Individually or in teams of two to five, the students will research an issue or historical event characterized by controversy, argument, and negotiation to discover and explain the success or failure of a particular approach and the consequences of the outcome. Student projects are evaluated at local, regional, state, and national competitions.

The 2017 NHD in PA State Contest will take place on May 12 and 13, 2017, at Carlisle Area High School, 623 W Penn St, Carlisle, PA 17013  Find out more about contests in your county at National History Day in PA.

Notebooks for Students

Homeschool families can purchase from NFS as individual families or form a group for a Group Order. In both cases the families must provide their homeschool documentation to NFS. The type of documentation is based by what is required by your state of residence.
